Cinder Cone Climbing Club (C4)

Hike, Explore, Adventure, Learn, Serve

8-12 Students

Overview:

Cinder Cone Climbing Club is a REALMS outing group that adventures around Central Oregon (and occasionally beyond).  Our goal is to explore and enjoy the cinder cones, caves, canyons, mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, and desert environments that our area has to offer.  We have monthly outings throughout the fall and winter, at times after school and other times on weekends (see schedule for details).  We will also meet for an hour after school on Wednesday the week prior to an outing in order to prepare for our trip.

Outings - Purpose:

In addition to the adventure component that is a big part of each outing, we will learn about the science and the human modifications and uses of the places we visit.  Our trips will be a mix of meeting with experts and just being on our own (self-supported). Service will also be an occasional part of our trips – either service to REALMS at our field sites or service to our community or natural environment.

A Note on Hiking:

You don’t have to be the strongest or fastest hiker, but you must be willing to push yourself to attain a group goal, and you must be willing to follow our risk management plan and hiking protocols to keep yourself and the group safe.

Parents:

I would love to have some parents that are willing and able to come on the trips with us, including driving students and participating in the hikes/service/learning. If you are interested, please let me know.
