Leadership Students have organized a "Giving Tree"
Been wondering about the tree in the hallway? The Leadership Group has organized a “giving tree” to collect donations for two Saving Grace Families and also warm winter clothes for The Bethlehem Inn. We have Family #17 and #20 from Saving Grace. As a school we are committed to bringing these two families a little bit of holiday cheer as they are transitioning out of a life of violence. We need to have all of the items (new and unwrapped) at school by next Friday, December 18th. Between the two families, we have 7 kids of various ages and two moms. Sign up HERE. Also, Saving Grace would appreciate donations of wrapping paper and wrapping supplies.
We are hoping that parents can work closely with your child to grab an item or two and bring into REALMS by next Friday. Gift Cards work great!

Friends of REALMS Fieldwork Contributions
Friends of REALMS is a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting some of the most unique and powerful parts of a student's REALMS education - fieldwork, service and electives. Without the financial support of Friends of REALMS, we would not be able to engage students in the on overnight and single day fielwork and service experiences that are so critical in helping our students become "future ready", not just "test ready".
Every REALMS parent can help in the effort. Friends of REALMS requests that parents make an annual fieldwork contribution. This is NOT a fee, and is not required. HOWEVER, it is an absolutely critical component in making it possible for REALMS to offer these rich, educationally powerful, real-world learning experiences.
Friends of REALMS encourages every family to make a fieldwork contribution for this year right away, if you haven't already. You can make a fieldwork contributiuon at whatever level is possible for you, however we have set up the following grade based recommendations based on the amount of fieldwork each grade participates in. You can pay online by clicking the links below... or drop a check by the school during Student Led Conferences.
Or, make a Partial Fieldwork Contribution - $50, $75 or $100
On behalf of the Friends of REALMS Board of Directors, the staff, and most of all, the students of REALMS... Thank You.
Please bring in your Box Tops!
We will be collecting them throughout the year to raise funds for REALMS .
We are also collecting Labels for Education. Please look for participating products from these brands: BIC, Campbell's, Pace, Pepperidge Farms, Spaghettios, Swanson, V8

April 25 – May 4
REALMS is hiring 4 outside staff members to compliment the 5 current REALMS teachers leading the 8th grade Travel Study Trip for a total staffing team of 9. You will help lead a group of fifty 8th grade students (13-14 year olds) on a 12-day adventure to the San Juan Islands on their annual Travel Study Trip. Experience with young people, outdoor education, and travel are essential. This position requires good communication, positive attitude, and the ability to work with both students and other staff members in a collaborative, flexible environment. Although the staff team has a clearly articulated itinerary and program, it is not uncommon for the schedule to change.
Travel Study Trip Description
The REALMS Travel-Study Trip will involve a learning expedition of the San Juan Islands. The San Juan Islands are a small archipelago situated on the border between the U.S. and Canada. This 12 day field experience will bring to a culmination in-depth investigations in Social Studies, Science and other subject areas. The goal is for students to build their knowledge through preparatory study that will become background for authentic investigation -- experiences and fieldwork. The project immerses students in experience based learning within another community

Midterm Progress Reports and Missing Assignments
There are only 6 weeks left in the 1st semester, and we know there are students who need to do some ASSIGNMENT CATCH UP over the Break. Teachers will be working closely with students over the next week or so to make sure those who do have missing assignments or incomplete work have what they need to complete that work over the Holiday Break.
We will be sending home a 2nd "midterm progress report" on Thursday January 7th, which gives students 4 weeks prior to the end of semester to dig in and tackle and standards with low scores. However, we encourage parents and students to use StudentVue and/or CanaryFlow frequently and ASAP to track their proficiency and identify missing work or assessments that might need to be re-taken!
We will also be hosting a "Catch Up Day" (by invitation) on Monday January 4th for specific students we think need extra time and/or support to demonstrate proficiency on 1st semester learning targets. We are developing a list of students who will be invited to this "Catch Up Day" and will reach out to those students (and their parents) who are invited next week before the Break!
In the meantime - visit StduentVue with your kiddo to make sure you are aware of how everything is going!
